1. Introduction:

FCE (First Certificate in English) – is a general English language examination of Cambridge English (also known as ESOL). FCE is an upper-intermediate, international English language qualification that focuses on Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Because FCE is internationally recognised, people chose to take the exam for work purposes, study purposes or just their own interest.

FCE is made up of 5 sections that test key language skills: Reading, Writing, Use of English, Listening and Speaking. All candidates receive a Statement of Results according to the Cambridge English Scale scores. Successful candidates who receive a high enough score are also awarded an FCE certificate, which is valid for life.

Fees vary by test centres. The common estimated fees are from $50 to $55.

4. Target participants:

  • College, university students who major/majored in English or students who wish to improve their English linguistic skills.
  • Teachers who teach English in primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, etc.

5. Teachers:

A mix of Vietnamese and foreign teachers who have degrees in Education and many years of experience in teaching IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, etc. Our qualified teachers are accredited in international certifications such as TESOL, CELTA, etc.

Ms Vu Thi Lan has over 30 years teaching experience. She obtained a BA in English, granted by the HCMC University of Education and an MA in TESOL, granted by the University of Canberra (Australia). She previously worked for the Teacher’s Training College of HCM City as well as at Saigon University, where she played a pivotal role as a secondary school teacher trainer, whilst also participating in course-book training workshops held for secondary and high school teachers (years 6 to 12).

Currently, Ms Vu is working as a lecturer at the HCMC University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology, at Open University and also at Hung Vuong University. In addition, she is a co-author of selected English course-books (Intensive program, years 10, 11 and 12) and other notable reference books.

Pham Thi Linh is an English teacher who is able to effectively communicate with students from diverse backgrounds and varying degrees of ability. She is a committed and dedicated professional with an ability to teach, motivate and direct students to maximum performance by encouraging a positive energetic environment. Pham Thi Linh received her BA in English from the Hue Education University in 1978. Later, in 2005, she earned her Masters of Arts in TESOL and Foreign Language Learning from the University of Canberra.

Her expansive career in teaching English began in Danang where she taught at Phan Chu Trinh High School from 1978-1989. During this time, she dedicated herself to improving the reading and writing skills of the students as well as organising extra-curricular activities. She is currently a teacher of English at Dong Nai University. Her main focus is to teach English by providing techniques that give students more confidence when making presentations or speeches. Pham Thi Linh shares her methods and experiences in teaching English with both the pedagogical students and in workshops on methodology, to help secondary school teachers improve their teaching methods.

II.  Teaching staff

Vietnamese teachers:  50% of teaching hours, focusing on Reading, Listening and Grammar.

Foreign teachers: 50% of teaching hours, focusing on Speaking and Writing.

7. Support policy:

  • Free trial classes every month.
  • Free placement tests, final tests and practice tests.
  • Possible recruitment at COMPASS after obtaining FCE certificate.
  • Registration for official FCE exams.

8. Tuition fees:

  • Not refundable in any cases.
  • Not refundable for missing lessons in individual circumstances of students.

9. Subject reservation:

  • Students are hospitalized for a long period time and are able to show a doctor’s slip.
  • Reservation Request must be made within the first two weeks of the course, only ONE TIME per course.

10. Course retaking:

Students must meet the following criteria:

  • Attend 70%, or above, of hours and participate in all exams;
  • The first retaking is free, the second one will be charged 50% of full tuition fee.
